West Side Lanes, Taft’s brand new lanes that just opened this past September, held its first ever tournament on Sunday, January 8. It was a No-Tap Tournament and brought out nearly thirty local bowlers and for most of them it was their first-ever bowling tournament experience!
Bowlers needed to be at least 16 years of age or older to compete and see if they could knock down nine pins and get a strike for it! The highest scratch series won a cash prize. Results were as follows: 1st – Mike Maloy (737); 2nd – Ed Wheeldon (697); 3rd – Jeff Cramer (611); and 4th Chris Clepper (596).
Thanks to the efforts of Caitlin Ray and Mike Maloy for getting this event going and bringing out a good showing of brand-new bowlers. Plans are in the making for an upcoming tournament in the next month! If you are in Taft, be sure to stop by the new West Side Lanes which is located in the West Side Recreation and Park District building located at 500 Cascade Place – Bldg. D., 661/765-6677. A youth league will be starting around February 5th and a new adult league will also be starting later this month.
