The 2012 Mixed City Tournament will take place the weekend of March 17-18, 2012 at AMF Southwest Lanes. Entry forms are available at local centers as well as online (www.geusbc.org). This event features two divisions—Adult and Senior (55 years and older). Event also has two events—Mixed Team (two men and two women), at 10am both days and Mixed Doubles at 1:30pm both days. Entry fee is $25 per event per bowler. Bowlers may bowl twice but must change half their team in order to do so. GEUSBC Board members will be visiting leagues in the next couple of weeks to answer any questions and invite league bowlers to come out and bowl. If you do not have anyone to bowl with, they will assist you with that and help put you on a team so you can bowl.
Also, that very same weekend, the GEUSBC Youth City will be taking place but at Regency Bowling Center. This event is open to all GEUSBC youth league bowlers and cost is $10 per bowler per event. The Team event will be on Saturday at 1:30pm and the Doubles and Singles on Sunday at 1:30pm.
Pre-registration is appreciated but participants may enter the day of the tournament as long as they are at the center an hour prior to the squad they wish to bowl and there is room. Entry forms are available at all local centers.

YOUTH BOWLER ANDREW SVOREN SWEEPS 8TH ANNUAL ANNIE SCHIERLITZ MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT

The 8th annual Annie Schierlitz Memorial Adult-Junior Doubles Tournament is now in the books and had a first this year! Youth bowler, Andrew Svoren, not only was part of the Champion team with partner, Tim Henson, but then, by the luck of a draw, he was paired with partners that won him second with Joe “JP” Smith and third with partner, Mike Mayo!! Svoren was on a roll, literally, as he bowled a 707 scratch in the first squad with partners Henson and Smith. Then in the second squad, his partner, Mayo, rolled a 707 to carry Svoren’s 627 for a third place win!
This year’s tournament took place on Saturday, January 21, at AMF Southwest Lanes and had two squads which drew over 110 bowlers. Although junior bowlers made up a little less of the event this year, there were plenty of adult bowlers that came out to support this worthwhile event that has all its proceeds go to the GEUSBC (Golden Empire United States Bowling Congress) Youth program in Annie’s name. These funds are then used for various things like shirts for youth league bowlers to wear when they compete, to help with expenses when they travel to bowl Youth State, etc. And this event is the main fundraiser for the GEUSBC Youth each year. Several NEW things were in the mix for this year’s event. Special thanks, and new for this year, to sponsors that came on board: Rodriguez & Associates, Keleher’s Certified Shorthand Reporters/Jean Watanabe, Corvettes of Bakersfield; and, GASSCO/Gary Davis. And, the event’s past sponsor, Kern Trophies, who has been with this event since its inception. Trophies for this year’s event were donated by Sheilah & Scott Bomar. And, another new thing for this year’s event, local bowler Don Williams donated eight bowling balls from his arsenal to be used as ball giveaways to the youth bowling in this event. Several of these balls were won by youth bowlers from Taft’s new West Side Lanes and were so appreciated by the youth that won them.
