SUMMER LEAGUES RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER
With Winter leagues finishing up that can only mean Summer leagues are getting ready to start so drop by a local center and grab one of their Summer league schedule pamphlets and see what league might interest you. You can sign up as a team, as an individual, or maybe even see if your work might want to bowl! Summer leagues are a great way to get out of the heat, meet new friends and being they are only about 15 weeks long, it is a great way to see if you would like to get more serious about the sport of bowling.
Here’s a few you might want to consider:
--17th annual Tuesday night Mega Ball league, Regency Bowling Center (820 Real Road). Starts on May 22, 6:30 p.m. Every bowler received a new bowling ball of their choice (drilling included) plus prize fund. If interested, contact Regency at 325-6428. League meeting is May 22 at 6 p.m. Mixed trios.
--Bar/Club League, Sunday nights, Regency Bowling Center. Starts on May 13, 6 p.m. This is a short-term league (ends Aug. 19) for bartenders, servers, owners, security staff, DJ’s and any members associated with the operations of a bar or nightclub in Bakersfield. It is also a non-sanctioned No-Tap league (if you get nine pins on your first ball, it counts as a strike). Four-person mixed (two men/two women). Must be 21 or older. Cost $20 per person. All drinks & food included. Contact Regency at 325-6428 for more information.
Next column will feature some Summer leagues being offered from AMF Westchester Lanes (1819 – 30th Street; (661) 324-4966), www.westchesterlanes and AMF Southwest Lanes (3610 Wible Road; (661) 834-2695), www.amf.com/southwestlanesca.

Weekly honor scores
--Congratulations to Cameron Welch who shot his first ever 300 game on Wednesday, July 13, bowling in the Las Vegas league at AMF Southwest Lanes.
--Also bowling a 300 game was Donald Benner, who was pre-bowling for the Mega Ball league at Regency last week. Unfortunately, unopposed pre-bowled and make-up games are no longer recognized by USBC (United States Bowling Congress). This, unfortunately, was not the only time Benner has bowled a perfecto but his other perfecto also was during a make-up.
--And a pair of 299 games were rolled by two different people, during the same game of the same league at AMF Southwest Lanes on Thursday night, July 7, in the Guys & Dolls league. First one was rolled by “Bowler of the Week” PD Richardson who left a 9 pin for his 299 game. Then, Josh Royal entered his tenth frame with all strikes to also leave a 9 pin for his 299 game. Royal said this was his highest game ever and, remarkably, he has only been bowling for one and half years!
